5 Cool Ideas to Spend Time with Your Girlfriends During the Holidays Other Than Shopping
The Christmas holiday is a great time to spend time with your girlfriends and share in events that are out of the norm, creative, and fun. Yes, there are gifts to purchase, holiday parties to attend, great food to devour, and more opportunities to cut a rug. But wouldn’t it be great to slow down a bit and do something different for a change? I’m a shopper at heart, but from time-to-time, I just want to be fully engaged with my girlfriends. Christmas is a wonderful time to connect (or reconnect), grow closer, and solidify your friendships.
Hello, beautiful! I pray that you’re doing exceedingly well!
Below are five (5) cool things to consider doing to spend time with your girlfriends during the holidays:
Spend time outdoors.
Yes, it’s cold, but a hike or a long walk in the park is gratifying. Or you could go ice skating for a few hours. It’s a great way to spend time with your girlfriends during the holidays, make wonderful memories, get some exercise, and you don’t even have to use your credit card. Let’s keep it 100; shall we! We rarely remember “the fun we had when we went to the mall” but everybody talks happily about “the time when we went ice skating and you slipped and fell in the arms of that handsome guy.” What? It’s possible my sister! Speak it into existence! It doesn’t just happen on the Hallmark and Lifetime TV shows; it happens in real life, too.
You can even rent a small cottage or cabin and experience the outdoors in all its glory. Throw some logs in the fireplace, drink some hot cocoa or wine, eat something delicious, and just hang around talking. This experience will bring you closer and consolidate your friendships.
Purge your closets & donate clothes to charity.
This is a practical and fun way to spend time with your girlfriends during the holidays while doing a good deed. Instead of going to the mall and shopping for new clothes, take turns cleaning out your closets. If you still have doubts about that jacket with shoulder pads, your girls will definitely convince you one way or the other…gladly!
Second, 2018 is around the corner. A great way to invite & usher in new experiences into your life is to create the space for them to inhabit. Start the new year lighter and kinder by giving your slightly worn clothes to charity while having fun with your friends. All you need to make it happen is a bottle of wine, pizza, and some snacks to keep the party going.
Give back to the community.
Let’s talk a bit more about good deeds. Your girlfriends will love the idea of giving back to the community! How about volunteering together at a soup kitchen? There are so many unfortunate people that need a hot meal and a smile during the holidays.
You don’t have to stop there. If you want to spread more joy throughout the month while spending time with your girlfriends during the holidays, schedule a few volunteer activities with organizations that support the causes for which you all have the same passion. I guarantee this experience will strengthen your friendship even more and will give you a joy that surpasses all understanding.
Bake and decorate!
Baking is a great cure to quiet the mind and a great way to gather people in the kitchen. Get some flour, eggs, milk, and have your girlfriends over for a baking party. It will be so much fun; even for those who don’t like to cook. Because baking during the holidays is not necessarily about the cake, the gingerbread man, or Santa’s cookies. It’s about spending time together, being creative, and enjoying the sweet aroma of the holidays.
You can also spend time with your girlfriends during the holidays by inviting them over to help decorate your house. Once you all are done decorating your place, return the favor until everyone’s house is decorated. In fact, go overboard with the decorations this year, get crazy with the lights. The important thing is to have a great time together. And again, the investment for such an endeavor is minimal – including the cake and cookies that will be devoured as soon as it comes out of the oven.
Learn something new!
Knitting or crocheting is a great new hobby to take on. It’s the perfect excuse stay inside, spend time with your girlfriends during the holidays, lounge in comfortable clothes and thick socks, and have a ball learning how to knit or crochet. Start with a scarf! You may not be able to wear it when you’re done, but who cares. The point is to just hang out with your girlfriends and talk about everything and nothing while keeping your hands busy with other stuff other than swiping your credit card.
