Solo Travel: 18 Reasons to Do It Already!

Solo travel is quite liberating. Don’t get me wrong, I love going on trips with my family and friends, but there’s a certain feeling I get when I’m on my own that eludes me when I’m with others. It’s a knowing, I got this, I rock feeling that vibrates through every fiber of my being. You’ll feel it too as soon as you go on your first solo travel trip. However, I have to warn you: once you get a taste of solo traveling, you’ll want to do it more and more. Not a bad thing in my opinion!

Hello, beautiful ones!  I pray that you’re doing exceedingly well!

If you still have doubts about traveling solo, here are 18 reasons, aka benefits, that will make the case to buy that plane ticket sooner rather than later!

• You’ll be more creative the more you actively engage with the locals & immerse yourself in the fabric of the place you visit, domestically or internationally.

• You’ll expand your five (5) senses. No matter where you go, you’ll experience invigorating sounds, sights, smells, tastes, and things you’ll touch that will ignite a desire for more and penetrate your soul.

• You’ll appreciate & be grateful for the present and every little thing around you, good & bad.

• It will force you to adapt & increase your problem-solving capabilities when you encounter different situations.

• It will improve your mental health. Time away void of the chitter chatter of friends & family make for an excellent time to lick your wounds, reevaluate your life, and sort out your feelings & thoughts.

This is so spot on. I lived abroad for 2 years because of a work opportunity and I sort of consider this as solo travel. The first week was filled with nothing but homesickness. However, as the days went by, I adapted to my new environment, earned new friends, learned a new language and found the confidence I never knew I had.

I have been solo traveling in my twenties and I miss it so much.

A hotel bed all to myself? I’m sold! I actually really enjoy solo trips, as long as they’re not too long. I do start missing my family pretty quickly.

Yep, no doubt about it; and having your own travel itinerary is great…I think for the first few trips going solo domestically would be great to start building up confidence then the prospects of going overseas will not seem as daunting. That “first time for everything” I suppose!

I have been wanting to travel by myself for quite a few years. I think I may finally do it for my 40th birthday

Solo traveling can definitely be fun! Great post and beautiful photos.

  • Sounds like solo travel is quite the trip, I haven’t traveled solo before. Up until the last two years I honestly traveled little … I love this post!

  • Love this! I travel a lot, but never solo. I just booked my first solo trip next month

  • As I get older, I find that I enjoy being alone more. Not sure I’d be brave enough to travel very far though.

I have travelled solo a huge amount all my life. It’s amazingly liberating and although it’s great with friends or family, I do think you experience more from looking out, rather than in. I have written loads about it on my blog, including how I now go to gigs on my own & the down side to eating solo! x

  • I love traveling with my two kiddos. Maybe I will travel on my own when my kids are grown and away. Although I would like to travel with the hubs.

Taking that first step toward traveling solo IS scary, but… it’s well worth it! Have Fun!!!!

This was such a great read! I’ve recently been a tourist in my own city (NYC) and felt so liberated. Next stop is traveling!

  • Love it! Travel with family or friends is always fun, but I always absolutely love a good solo trip – your point about being on your own terms is so very, very right.

I have never done it, except for work, but you sure make me want to give it a shot!
