Get Out of Your Comfort Zone: Take a Few Fashion Chances!

Hello beautiful ones!  I pray that you’re doing exceedingly well!

Stepping outside of your fashion comfort zone can be difficult if you have no idea where to start. Like other things in life, believe it or not, when it comes to style, we all have our own convenient place as well. Maybe you don’t notice it, but you wear the things according to your comfort and stylishness. As long as those things are in harmony you’ll feel good regardless of what you’re wearing. And that’s ok because the most important thing is that you feel comfortable with yourself, no matter what others think.

But seriously, when was the last time you tried wearing a new color? It’s so easy to get stuck in one place – and why wouldn’t you; your comfort zone is your safety net.  The trouble is, more often than not, that coziness keeps you from thinking – I mean dressing – outside the box and being fearless!

Here are a few tips that will help you navigate making a change in your fashion choices going forward:

  1. Find inspiration and make a plan.

If you feel bored with your wardrobe, the first thing that you should do is find inspiration. Nowadays, we have a lot of places such as Instagram, Pinterest, Fashion websites, etc. to find whatever we want.  When you find items or outfits that speak to you capture the style on an app like Your Closet or Chicisimo.  This will help you to maintain the motivation and you’ll feel the need to start doing something about it.

Now, don’t go willy nilly and jump in feet first.  Like anything else, you need a plan to start the process and know when you get there.  Plan to a few minutes a day to discover some new & fun ways to shop & enhance your closet.

  1. Pace yourself & be confident.

Take it slow; you don’t have to try everything at once. All change needs time and revving up your style is not the exception to the rule.  The key to making any outfit your own is CONFIDENCE.  Any variation that you make do it with enthusiasm, even if it’s as simple as wearing a piece of jewelry.  Wear it boldly!

  1. Try new pieces with your basics.

Start pairing your basic pieces with some pieces that you scared you senseless before. For example, if you find inspiration in joggers try pairing them with a white tee and a utility jacket.  As you wear it throughout the day check in with your emotions to see what feelings this new look is giving you.  Trust me, with every baby step you take you’ll start to embrace the changes and before you know it you’ll be adding new & different items to your wardrobe.

  1. Be yourself & have fun!

Fashion should be fun so do your best to enjoy every step of your journey.  The most important thing is that you feel comfortable while expressing your unique personal style.  Take your time, be yourself, and you’ll find that a few tweaks here & there are all you need to up the ante on your style!

  1. Show off your new style.

That’s right…this is where you flaunt it and sashay across the room without a care in the world!  You got this.  Now go be #fearlessauthenticunapologetic!

Great tips, I totally agree! You look fabulous, and love your hair!

  • I like trying to step out of my comfort zone. I had to do something scary for the first time and switch my lip shade choices for always wanting pinks as my lip shades to trying bolder colors such as red and even dark vampy colors. The change 4 years ago makes me known for my red lips today!

  • My condolences. I’m sure your dad was a brillant respected man.

    • You know you don’t have to wait until baby is born! In fact, this might be a good time to push the envelope a bit lol. Please do share photos of your changes; I know you’ll look great. Congratulations on the new addition to the family. When are you due?

      • Amanda Tento

I am due on August 2nd. So, just over 3 weeks left! I don’t want to buy any new “Maternity” clothes! LOL! Looking forward to getting my other curves back and not the beach ball one! LOL!

  • LOVE the outfit! I love platform heels because I’m only 5’2″ and those denim ones look like they are FIYAH! The top is amazing as well. I want to try the off the shoulder look, but I’m wavering a bit. Maybe it’s time to just go for it.

This was a really great post!! I’m def not one to try new things but I see a few areas in my wardrobe that I could switch up thank you for the tips

    • You’re quite welcome! I think you’re on the right track to shopping your closet and switching things up. This way you don’t have to invest money in pieces and can test the waters leisurely. Hope you’ll come back and share with me!

  • I love your outfit! You look so beautiful, and the denim heels are stunning! I wish I could wear heels like that, but right now I’m pregnant so it would be a little difficult for me to walk. :) I love your tips on getting out of your comfort zone with fashion. I think too many people get comfortable with ordinary fashion styles. When we step out of our comfort zone, we can truly express our creativity with our fashion!

    • Congratulations on the baby! Yes, heels can be a little precarious while pregnant, but it won’t be long before you’re rocking them again. The comfort zone is really tricky because it feels so good. But that’ when it’s time to color outside the lines. Hope you’ll stop by often and let me know when you deliver! Can’t wait to see pics.

  • Kristine Nicole Alessandra VA

I used to be content with clothes I receive as gifts during Christmas, birthdays and Mother’s day. I think its about time that I break out of my shell and choose the clothes I really want to wear to show off my personality. Your outfit is beautiful. You seem overflowing with confidence in that attire!

    • I am so loving this! Yes, please do let your personality show in your clothes. Don’t sacrifice who you are though…the clothes should compliment everything unique about you. And thank you so much for the compliment. The older I’ve gotten the more I’ve come to love me 100%. I’m so glad you see it because that means the work I put in is working. Stop back by often doll!

  • Matt Johnson

I love the look! It took me a while before I really appreciated heading to the store for clothes, but now I really can’t get enough of it! It’s fun and exciting to take the new look out for a ride. Thanks for your tips!

    • I so love hearing this! What’s your fav stores now? Don’t forget to shop your closet as well!

  • You look so pretty! I basically just wear what I want and don’t care what others say. I wear a lot of denim and t-shirts with funny sayings on them.

    • And that’s the way to go! DO YOU because at the end of the day it is YOUR HAPPINESS that you should be concerned with. Thanks for sharing…stop back by often :) Thank you for the compliment!!

  • I love this outfit! So elegant and chic! The blouse is amazing! xx corinne

  • Denay DeGuzman

Oh my goodness – that gorgeous top! I love, love, love it! You’re absolutely right about stepping out of your comfort zone and experimenting with fashion. Summer is the perfect time to make this happen! :-)

    • Thanks sweetie! I fell in love with the top too…Got it in red too lol!

  • Shannon Patterson

You look great in this outfit! I love this post because we focus too much on what others think of us, instead of on what we like and feel beautiful in.

    • Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed the post. And you are so right…focus on what brings you joy & a smile to your face in ALL that you do not just fashion. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Robin Rue

Girl, look at you in those shoes! You look like a model out there in that outfit!

  • Megan Barndt

Those shoes are fierce!! I 100% agree with slowly going bold, it pays off when you realize how many compliments you get wearing something you wouldn’t normally choose!

    • Thank you. Believe it or not, they are SOOOO comfy. So much so I got them in cognac too!

Yes, jumping in too fast with anything usually doesn’t work. Fashion is no different. Taking it slow helps to allow for appreciation so that the next step is easier.

Thanks for commenting. Come back often!

  • Ciel T. Raymundo

Your outfit is so gorgeous, I love it. The cohesiveness of each pieces with each other is perfect. Your tips are so on point as well. Mixing and matching is really the key to be bold when it comes to your fashion choice. Even vintage can go with modern pieces when styled properly.

    • Thank you so much! I so love mixing vintage with trendy & modern. And it’s so easy to do because nothing really goes out of style…it just goes dormant for some time and then it’s resurrected.

Hope you’ll stop by often :)

  • Elena Stevkovska

I love your outfit, especially those shoes, I wish I can wear high heels like these ones but I can`t.

    • Thank you sweetie! I am praying that God will allow me to wear herls for at least another 30 years or so.

I recognize that everyone can’t or choose not to wear heels so please keep your eyes peeled for posts in flats, sandals, block heels, etc.
